Call for class schedule
Where are classes? Classes are held in the activities building at Heights Church behind MiRancho in Clearwater, SC.
This is 4 miles from Aiken Technical College and also 4 miles from downtown Augusta, GA. Directions: If you are coming from Augusta, go over the Gordon Hwy. bridge and continue exactly 3.5 miles on the Aiken-Augusta Hwy. (US-1-N becomes Jefferson Davis Hwy.) You will be at a red light (intersection) with Thompson Ave. on your left and Parker Drive on your right. You will also see a MiRancho Mexican Resturant at this intersection. Our class is directly behind MiRancho in the Heights Church SOAR building. Look for the big blue building with the SOAR and Revolution signs on the front. If you see the Bi-Lo and McDonalds in Clearwater, you have driven a few hundred feet too far. There is a map on the right side of this page. Call the church office at 803-593-3054 or Johnny Hughes at 803-221-0330 if you need further directions. What is taught? The class is taught Kindai Karate, which includes Goshinjutsu, sparring, forms, and weaponry. Are you teaching legitimate martial arts with legitimate rank and knowledge? Yes (of course every martial arts teacher will claim that). The head instructor has over 27 years of continuous and verifiable martial arts experience. No one in this martial arts school bought their rank on eBay or somehow jumped to 9th degree black belt while being under 50 years old. His rank was awarded to him by the UMAA, which is a respected martial arts associated headed by Shihan Frank Williams. That can be researched at www.umaaglobal.com How do black belt ranks work? It is different in every school, but most either do around 4 years per level of black belt or something very similar. Remember: Gichin Funakoshi Sensei (born 1868) only awarded black belts to college graduates, so if a school has an 8-year-old black belt in the room, something is very wrong. Also, if someone under 30 years old has a very high rank (such as 8th or 9th degree black belt), something is wrong there too. Be aware and research the school, teacher, and style. Who will be teaching the classes? The head instructor and the staff of black belts will personally teach all classes. Guest instructors may come in to teach certain belt levels or specific topics but will be supervised and watched by the head instructor. Are there any testing fees? No. If a student takes a belt test and passes, the only cost will be the cost of the actual belt ($5). Are there any payment contracts? No. Can I watch the class? Yes, anyone can sit and watch. There is an area for parents or friends to view the classes. Please put your cell phones on silent and keep the noise down to avoid disturbing the classes. |
